Venezuelan artist Pacho Flores is one of the leading trumpeters of our time. He will first introduce himself to the Ostrava audience in the classical Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra by Czech composer Jan Křtitel Neruda. The concerto was originally written for the French horn, but due to its difficulty it is nowadays more often included in programmes by trumpeters.

This will be followed by the Akban Bunka Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra by contemporary Swedish composer and conductor Christian Lindberk, who is renowned as the world’s most acclaimed trombone virtuoso. In the piece, one can hear inspiration from Turkish oriental music, Japanese culture and jazz.

The first half of the concert features Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Pastoral” symphony. Although the work was written in parallel with the “Fate” symphony, it represents a completely different world of inspiration. There is no trace of heroism or dramatic conflict. The programmatic Pastoral Symphony is one of Beethoven’s most transparent works, reflecting the poetry of rural life, whether it be the singing of birds, the trumpeting of shepherds, the stormy elements of nature or folk dances.

The concert will be conducted by Venezuelan-American conductor Domingo Hindoyan, chief conductor of the Royal Liverpool Symphony Orchestra, whose dynamic artistry wowed Ostrava audiences three years ago.
