As in a fairy tale, it is not possible to say that the king had three sons. Johann Strauss the Elder had three sons, the bright stars of the operetta heaven, but one of these sons, Johann Strauss the Younger, is referred to as the king – the king of the waltzes. Musically active and successful, however, were his brothers Joseph and Edward. Vienna literally succumbed to the Strauss, and soon to Europe. The captivating melody and lightness of their music can also appeal to today’s listeners.
