The Latvian violinist Baiba Skride (* 1981), the winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2001, will present in her recital the most famous pieces of the Czech repertoire. Four Pieces by young Josef Suk arose amidst the flourishing family happiness with the daughter of Antonín Dvořák, Otilia, but their balladic and elegiac tunes seemed to indicate the upcoming difficulties and tragedies. Also, Janáček’s Violin Sonata reflects the various existential feelings, but here with a huge, even overflowing dose of passion, emotion and, last but not least, exotic and folkloric moments. Abroad it was first presented by Paul Hindemith, who is well known in Ostrava. Third part belongs to the Dvořák’s favorite Romantic Pieces full of deep melancholy, emotion, but also drama. The evening will be concluded with the last chamber piece by Johannes Brahms, the pioneering clarinet sonata, which was adapted for viola by the composer himself.
