Unlike the String Quartet, the piano trio provides all three players with balanced solo opportunities, and no one has utterly the accompanying role. Trio Bergerettes named after the composition by Bohuslav Martinů captured the attention shortly after its birth in 2001. Now it brings a representative selection of Czech trio production. Suk’s dreamy elegy is dedicated to Julius Zeyer’s memory, to the first anniversary of his death in 1901. Novák’s dramatic autobiographical Balladic trio comes from the same time. After the rollicking Sluk’s danced suite, the evening is concluded with the Dvořák’s Dumky, which is for its highlighting of the Ukrainian folk musical ensemble, Dvořák’s own invention. It begins pensively, and ends with dancing – Dvořák completely fills in this rewarding model, and this piece belongs among his most popular chamber compositions.
