We have received a prestigious award from the music magazine Diapason.
In the November issue of the prestigious French music magazine Diapason, the album Vítězslava Kaprálová – The Complete Orchestral Works was recognized as the Recording of the Month (Diapason d’Or). The album, a collection of the complete orchestral works of Vítězslava Kaprálová, was released by the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava in collaboration with the German label cpo in April 2024.
The award is accompanied by a comprehensive review, which states:
“The delicate leadership of Alena Hron superbly highlights the sharp harmonies, abrupt rhythmic shifts, and raw energy. The Ostrava musicians glide effortlessly from melancholy to exuberance, from dark tones to bright ones, with remarkable ease. They far surpass the outstanding rival recordings.”
Review of the composition Partita – Anne Ibos-Augé, Diapason No. 738, p. 68.
This exceptional collection was completed in 2023 and released in April 2024. It was recorded by the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava under the baton of conductor Alena Hron. “I am delighted that this recording has taken on a life of its own and is achieving success. I believe we owe this to the music of Vítězslava Kaprálová,” said Alena Hron about the album’s success. The album also brings listeners the world premiere recording of Fanfares for Brass Instruments and Timpani, one of Kaprálová’s final works.
“Recording the complete works of Vítězslava Kaprálová was one of the most exciting projects of recent years. The brilliance of this composer, who the world is finally beginning to discover, was further elevated by the interpretation of conductor and rising star Alena Hron. This collaboration was logical from the start and added a unique value to the recording, as confirmed by this prestigious award,” said Jan Žemla, Director of the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava.
The project also featured soprano Veronika Rovná and pianist Tomáš Vrána, who recorded not only the Piano Concerto and Partita for Piano and Strings but also the original and previously unrecorded version of the Solo Suite for Piano. The musical direction was overseen by Pavel Kunčar, and sound engineering was managed by Jana Jelínková.
This CD is one of the cornerstone contributions of the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava to the Year of Czech Music and was made possible with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and The Kapralova Society.
